Did you know that Lord Shiva is the Supreme Power within Shaivism. If not, we are going to discuss about Lord Shiva today so stay connected and keep reading as we go through the life of Lord Shiva and also find out ways to connect with him.

Lord Shiva is known as the destroyer among the Tri-murti, the other two are Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma. He is the one who creates, protects and transforms everything in this Universe. Parvati or Sati is the equal complementary partner of Lord Shiva. He is worshipped across the World in the form of a Lingam. Lord Shiva’s abode is the Mount Kailash and it is believed to be a Lingam in the center of the Universe. Lord Shiva’s favorite ornament is “Rudraksha” and is found in many forms named “Mukhi” and is mainly found in the mountain ranges of Nepal.

He is well represented by the following attributes:

  • Serpent around the neck.
  • Holy river Ganga flowing from his forehead.
  • Closed third eye on the forehead with which he burned all the desires.
  • Thrisula as his weapon.
  • Damaru.
  • Crescent moon .
  • Blue Throat as he drank the poison from Samundra Manthan to eliminate the destruction

 

He is also referred to as “Rudra” in certain Vedas. Shiva is the creator of Shaivism. As per the people of this sect, Lord Shiva is the creator, preserver and destroyer. Lord Hanuman is believed to be 11th avatar of Lord Shiva and in his Mahamrityunjaya form, Lord Shiva is represented as the great conquerer of Death. This mantra is chanted to eradicate death and disease.

Now let us talk about ways as to how you can connect with Lord Shiva:

  • Chanting Om Namah Shivaya 108 times daily. You can increase the chanting every day in multiples of 108 and remember the glory of Lord Shiva as you chant. Don’t even a single day without chanting.
  • Visit a Shiva Temple atleast once every week and offer milk to the Lingam.
  • Wear Rudraksha.
  • Think about Lord Shiva and surrender yourself to him.
  • Be Kind and donate to poor people.
  • Fast on Monday and to be specific fast in the Savan Month.
  • Remove ego from yourself.
