Lord Krishna is a major deity and is worshiped as the eight avatar of Lord Vishnu. He represents Love, Compassion and Tenderness. Lord Krishna’s birthday is celebrated every year on Janmashtami as per the Hindu Calendar.
Krishna Leela are the narratives of Lord Krishna’s life. He is potrayed in various prospectives namely God-child, model-lover and the Supreme God. He is the principal character in The Mahabharata, the Bhagavata Purana and the Bhagavad Gita.
As am Avatar of Lord Vishnu, his name is 57th in the list in Vishnu Sahasranama. Lord Krishna was born in a prison cell in Mathura where his parents Devki and Vasudeva were imprisoned by Devaki’s brother Kamsa as he was told by a sage that he would die by the child of his sister. King Kamsa killed each and every child of Devki, however Vasudeva was able to secure one child and this child came to be known as Lord Krishna. He was raised by his foster mother, Yasodha. When Kamsa came to know about Lord Krishna, he sent many assassins to kill him and finally Lord Krishna came to Mathura and killed the egoistic king Kamsa.
The one of the most famous narration of Lord Krishna life is the lifting of the Govardhan hill on the little finger to save the villagers from the rain and floods that were caused by the angry Lord Indra. Lord Krishna also helped the Pandavas in the battle with the Kauravas. He was the charioteer of the Pandava Arjuna. It was in the war that Lord Shri Krishna advised Bhagwad Gita to Arjun. His life inspires us to live according to Dharma and do good Karma, thus keeping oneself focussed to attain Moksha.
According to sources, he left the physical form at the age of 125 at the hands of a Hunter as he wanted to bless the hunter.
