Kaliya Naag was a venomous and dangerous snake who used to fear the people around Braj. Now, let us talk why Kaliya Naag choose Vrindavan as his abode. Kaliya Naag used to stay at Ramanaka Dwipa, however he was forced to leave that place due to fear of Garuda, the enemy of all snakes. Garuda was cursed by a Rishi, that he could not enter Vrindavan unless and until he was dead. This was the main reason that Kaliya Naag choose Vrindavan as his home.
Kaliya Naag poisoned the entire water of Yamuna river and hence the animals and birds that drank the water of the Holy river died. One day, Lord Krishna was playing on the banks of river Yamuna and their ball dropped into the river. Lord Shri Krishna jumped into the river to get their ball.
Kaliya Naag came out of the river with his ten heads and started spitting venom and also wrapped around Lord Shri Krishna. At this point Lord Shri Krishna jumped on the head of the Kaliya Naag and started to dance on his head with the weight of the entire universe over his head.
The people of Braj was astonished looking this and the wives of Kaliya Naag came out and begged Lord Shri Krishna for mercy. Lord Shri Krishna left his foot marks on the head of the Kaliya Naag. He commanded the Kaliya Naag to left the Yamuna river and to start living in the ocean.
Kaliya Naag was also assured by Lord Shri Krishna that after looking at the footprints on the head, Garuda was not attack Kaliya Naag.
Kaliya Naag left Vrindavan and started living in the Ocean thereafter. This was the famous of Lord Krishna and Kaliya Naag.
