Maihar is located in Madya Pradesh, India in Satna district. The Maa Sharda Temple is located on the Trikuta Hill. It is believed that when Lord Shiva was carraying the body of Devi Sati, the necklace of Devi fell at this place. There is another belief about this temple at Maihar and it is related to Alha and Udal. These were two brothers and were great warriors at that time. These were the brothers who faught with Prithvi Raj Chauhan. The temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas.
These brothers were the first who first visited this temple and it is believed that daily at 04:00 AM Alha comes to worship the Devi. Behind the temple, there is a pond named after Alha. There is a Akhara also dedicated to the brothers and is located around 2 kilometers from the temple. The deity in the temple is made up of metal (combination of 5 metals). It is believed that the devotee who comes to visit the temple would become learned and intelligent.
In order to reach the temple, one can board and train and the nearest railway station is Maihar which is around 5 kilometers from the temple. One can board a taxi to reach the temple from the Railway Station. There are around 1000 steps to reach the temple on the hill. One can climb the steps by foot or there is also a rope-way to reach the temple.
The temple is open in morning from 05:00 AM in the morning till 08:00 AM and then opens in the evening at 04:00 PM and closes at 09:00 PM. The summers at this place are very hot, hence it is recommended to visit this place from October till March.
